Privacy Notice
Last update:
1. Introduction
Cybertrends Limited ("we", "us", "our") operates the WebScannerPro browser extension and the associated online services available at webscanner.pro (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Notice explains what information we process in connection with the Service, why we process it, and your rights.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. WebScannerPro is designed from the ground up to minimise data collection — we do not build profiles of individual users, and we do not sell personal data to third parties.
2. Who we are
Cybertrends Limited is the data controller for personal data processed under this Notice. We are incorporated in England and Wales and our registered office is at Oakmoore Court, 11c Kingswood Road, Droitwich, WR9 0QH, United Kingdom.
3. What data we collect and why
3.1 Extension functionality — URL checks
When you browse the web, WebScannerPro checks URLs against our threat intelligence database to protect you from malware, phishing, and other malicious sites. URLs are transmitted to our servers solely to perform this check and are not logged, stored, or associated with you in any way.
3.2 Account and subscription data
If you create an account or subscribe to a premium plan, we collect the information you provide during sign-up (such as your email address) and payment-related information processed on our behalf by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our systems.
3.3 Dark Web Monitoring
If you choose to use the Dark Web Monitoring feature, you may submit personal identifiers (such as email addresses) to be monitored for exposure in known data breaches. These identifiers are stored securely and used solely to provide the monitoring service. You can delete them at any time from your account settings.
3.4 Aggregated, anonymised statistics
We collect anonymised, aggregated statistics to understand how the extension is used and to improve it. This data cannot be traced back to any individual. It includes:
- Extension version and browser version
- Operating system type
- Country (derived from IP address at point of transmission; IP address is not stored)
- Installation and uninstallation events
- First daily use
4. Legal basis for processing
We process personal data on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR:
- Contract performance — to provide the Service you have signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to operate and improve the Service, prevent fraud, and keep our systems secure.
- Legal obligation — where required by applicable law.
- Consent — where you have given explicit consent, e.g. for optional features.
5. How we share your data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Service providers acting as processors on our behalf (e.g. cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics), bound by appropriate data processing agreements.
- Authorities, only where we are legally required to do so. We do not proactively assist authorities in information gathering beyond our legal obligations.
- Business transfers, in the event of a merger or acquisition, where your data would remain subject to an equivalent privacy notice.
6. Data retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Anonymised statistical data may be retained indefinitely. Dark Web Monitoring assets are deleted immediately upon your request.
7. Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request erasure of your data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@webscanner.pro.
8. Cookies
The WebScannerPro website uses essential cookies to operate (e.g. to maintain your logged-in session). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings.
9. Security
We apply industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Contact and complaints
For privacy-related questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@webscanner.pro or via our support site at webscanner.pro/support.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
11. Changes to this Privacy Notice
We keep this Privacy Notice under regular review. When we make material changes we will post the updated notice on this page and update the date below. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised notice.
